Happy Christmas Eve! I thought I’d squeeze in one more Book Tag before Christmas, and this one looks great – it one I spotted last year at ForBooksSake, which is an excellent blog, and was originally created by Lizzie Loves Books.

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

From most recent reads (otherwise I’d be here all day trying to decide!) it’s either Perilous Times or Girl, Goddess, Queen. (And even sticking to recent I still couldn’t pick one!)

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

One of the fictional couples I think most about is Jude and Cardan. I think the Folk of the Air trilogy was right around the time I really started paying attention to what was going on in Book Twitter and the blogging community, and I absolutely devoured that series. At the time, it really felt refreshing and different, and reminded me a lot of how I felt when I read The Hunger Games, years before.

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

Oh, that’s a hard one. I feel like I’ve read quite a lot of great trilogies (including the one mentioned above). I think I’ll have to go with Shades of Magic for this one. Similar to Folk of the Air, this was a series I heard about through Twitter and blogging, and as soon as I picked up the first book I absolutely fell in love with this world.

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

Completed series: The Dark Tower.

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your favourite Villain/Antagonist?

This is possibly influenced by watching the series relatively recently, but I’d go for Lestat in Interview with the Vampire. It’s hard not to be somewhat charmed by him, but still feel deeply for what Louis goes through.

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

At the moment, with more recently read books, it’s between Perilous Times and The Supreme Lie. Perilous Times is a near future version of our world, whereas The Supreme Lie is in a sort of alternate version, but I keep randomly thinking of them both and the worlds the authors created.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

Pan in the His Dark Materials series. Pan’s a dæmon, but I think it still counts, right?

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

#Sweets for Love! That book made me feel so hungry with all the mentions of wonderfully crafted baked goods, and it made me want to try baking again.

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

Again, sticking with more recent reads – Cam Ambrose, from Laurel Hightower’s Silent Key. She’s a wonderfully crafted character who will stop at nothing to protect her family.

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.

How about your favourite leading lad?

I’m going to go with Hades in Girl, Goddess, Queen. Largely because of well him and Persephone work together in this retelling, and the way Fitzgerald portrays a softer, more gentle version of Hades.

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I don’t think I’ve read a music or musical influence book for a long while, not one that really stands out as a favourite anyway. Maybe something to correct in 2024!
