#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
It’s almost Halloween! Are you excited? What are your plans? Did you do Blogtober this year and how did you do? For this week’s #5OnMyTBR, I thought ‘Horror’ might be a touch too vague for me – there is a lot of horror on my TBR! But I figured instead I’d do YA Horror, as Halloween feels like a great time of the year to read and watch stuff aimed at a younger audience. Just brings out the kid in me, I guess!

#5OnMyTBR October 30th:
Halloween Freebie
YA Horror
You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron

Format: Paperback
Genre: Horror
Published: June 20th, 2023
Why I Want to Read: I loved both Cinderella is Dead and This Poison Heart, and Bayron has really shown a talent for blending horror and fantasy. When I heard about this one, I got so excited. A slasher novel with a queer MC who is playing the “final girl” at a camp when the game becomes all too real. It sounds brilliant, especially with Kalynn Bayron behind it.
When Ghosts Call Us Home by Katya de Becerra

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror – Gothic
Published: October 3rd, 2023
Why I Want to Read: YA Gothic about a girl who stars in her sister’s amateur horror movie, a movie which gives rise to rumours the filmmaker sold her soul to the devil. Why wouldn’t I want to read this? I love horror about filmmaking and weird stuff happening in the process, and this one sounds really, very good.
Fear Ground by Jennifer Killick

Format: Paperback
Genre: Horror
Published: September 1st, 2022
Why I Want to Read: Dread Wood was a great book, really easy to get into it and I loved reading it, and I’m excited to see what this group gets up to next. I know it’s more Middle Grade than YA, but I think it’s a good book for younger YA readers too.
Wise Creatures by Deirdre Sullivan

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror
Published: September 28th, 2023
Why I Want to Read: That tagline. Chills. Plus it’s a book about a former child psychic, and it involves ghosts, so why wouldn’t I want to read this one?
I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is Me by Jamison Shea

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror
Published: August 29th, 2023
Why I Want to Read: Villain origin story. This book really does sound fantastic and at least one person I totally completely trust when it comes to books rated this a 5 star – how could I resist?
If you’ve read any of these I’d love to hear your thoughts, or let me know what YA Horror is on your TBR!
